Choosing a title

Deciding the title for my trailer is also very important as this is one of the main things that the audience will see straight away, it needs to be clear what the film is roughly about and what genre the film is.

This article has helped me understand the necessary things in making a good film title and I will use the techniques and advice he has put forward in order to help me with mine.

Explorer

This is one of my options for the trailer title, this is good because it is very short, snappy and to the point which I feel is good for film titles. It also highlights what the film is about but doesn't give too much away as the audience are unaware of what he is exploring so leaves them wanting more. The bad thing about this is that it is quite hard to know that this is the horror genre.

Appuldurcombe

This title is good because it is straight to the point as this is the place that he is exploring in the story. It also sounds like quite an old manor type house which informs the audience of what its about. In addition to this is doesn't give too much away which is good as the audience will be left wanting more. Also when coming to my poster it will suit my idea for this. The negatives are that only people from the Isle of Wight will know Appuldurcombe which does restrict my target audience although it is mainly aimed at people from the Island anyway.

Millward's Haunted Adventure

This film title is good as it clearly highlights the genre of the film, whereas the other do not really do this. In addition to this it distinctly shows what the film is about but doesn't give too much away. The bad things about it is it a bit too descriptive and I feel it suits more of a book then a film.

In summary, after analysing these I feel that Appuldurcombe is the best option for the film title. This is mainly because it clearly shows the audience where film is, but leaves out the element of horror which can be clearly shown through the poster of the film. It is also very short and snappy which I feel makes the best kind of title as it is to the point and is also very unique as this location has obviously never been used for a film before.
