Target audience

Their age

The main age group that we are interested in is from 15-19 years old, this is as we feel that this is mainly the age group that enjoy horror films the most and will be excited by it. I am apart of this age group myself so will be easier for me to interact with others also in the age group and discuss whether they like my idea and would want to see the trailer. To appeal to this age group then I will make sure I include youthful actors that they can relate to, I will also have to make sure my film trailer is very scary as this age group can be quite hard to scare as they are usually very mature. BBFC Age Classification stands for British Board of Film Classification, this is a company that puts age restrictions on films, this is why I chose the lower age of 15 years old because it is one the common restrictions for horror films. There could be a small part of swearing and the overall inclusion of paranormal could be quite frightening for a younger audience.





Their gender
We are generally aiming ours at both genders as they both can enjoy horror films but males stereo typically like them more as they enjoy the gore and are almost excited by being scared whereas women do not stereo typically enjoy this. I will make sure that my trailer appeals to both genders as it is gender neutral as it is not portraying a stereotype and the main character is a normal man who isn't attractive and doesn't possess any of the male stereotypes, is more of someone who is relatable to both genders.





Their class
The class of our target audience will be at lower class, this is because they enjoy horror films and it almost makes their life feel better and is a good way to escape their normal lives. They will be in the C2, D and E part of the British Social Grading Scale, this is good because it covers roughly 45% of the UK population, so I will have a wide target audience. I will make sure that I target this group by making the main character also apart of this group so that the audience can relate to their characteristics and almost be inspired by his achievements.






Their interests

Although it will be mainly aimed at someone with any types of interests, a lot of the people will be interested in supernatural and paranormal things and could have encountered paranormal experiences before in their life, teenagers like these types of films as it gives them something to speak about with their friends and speak about the scary parts, this is something that I have experienced myself. I will make sure my trailer appeals to these people by making references to things that are also in other paranormal films that are popular like the Ouija board etc.


Media effects debate
This debate is that is the effect that the media may have on its audience. The issue that is discussed focusses on the effects that may be created by media text, an example of this is that the heavy violence portrayed in the media could have had an influence on violent behavior in society. The main point question that is debated is; does the media have the power to change people's behavior, attitudes and promote ideologies. An example of this is when two senior students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and 1 teacher in a high school shooting massacre, it is believed that this violence came from playing violent video games such as Grand Theft Auto. I need to make sure that my production doesn't have a negative impact on the audience, this could be that people could try and find ghosts in dangerous places and this would be due to my trailer.



Now I have addressed my target audience I need to make sure that everything I film relates to them as this is very fundamental in making any media product as they can easily be put off if something doesn't relate to them well. Every little detail needs to be considered when it comes to attracting my target audience and now I know all of the details of them I can now target them effectively.
