Trailer plot

My initial idea for the plot was that a group of youths were in an abandoned building and do a ouija board while being there camping and a lot of haunted stuff happens because of this. After contemplating this I felt that this was too familiar as there is already a film titled 'Ouija' so it would be too common and not unique enough to attract my target audience. It would also be quite difficult for me to get a large group who would be willing to act, and wouldn't be experienced in acting so could make my trailer look quite tacky.

I adapted this idea by discussing it with my partner and now have came up with a much better, unique plan for the trailer, the general plot of the film is that it is about a famous explorer who goes around and visits the most haunted places in the world and records what he finds. In the trailer he investigates a new place where a lot of scary and haunted things happen, in which there is an abrupt ending (cliffhanger) that leaves the audience wanting more. This also suits me better as there will be one main actor which will be easier to have and will be good at acting which will make it more realistic. I like this idea as I feel that this is unique but still relates to many conventions of the horror genre and I feel I have found a gap in the market. All I need for this is one actor who is going to be my friend Jack Millward who is a very good and experienced actor so this is extremely important as it will make my trailer more realistic, and someone who is going to be the camera man who is actually apart of the story, this will either be me or my partner Jaydon, this is to make the film more realistic as this is what it would be like in real life.


Start
I based the narrative on the Todorov's model , it starts of with Jack collecting an award, this shows the equilibrium before it is disrupted. It then fades to Jack in his car introducing one of the examples of him arriving at a haunted location. There is then a series of jump cuts to him at other locations highlighting the things which has made him famous, a few jump scares of things happening to build the suspense with high paced thundering music to enhance the jump scares.

Main part
The main chunk of the plot will be at the abandoned building I have discussed. The main thing that Jack is famous for is exploring the most haunted places all over the world and recording his findings, this will be what happens at this location and he stays there overnight to get the full experience. It will start of quite normal and gradually develop the paranormal activity occurring until there is a cliffhanger that abruptly ends, this will be that one of the cameramen is hurt/taken away without Jack realising. Before this occurs there will be subtle things like bangs and doors slamming which will develop into things moving about before the ending.
