Questionnaire results

I have given this questionnaire around to thirty people at sixth form, I decided to do this as it gets a wide response and it is targeted to people my age which is the general age that our trailer is aimed at.

1. Do film trailers influence the films you watch? 

Yes - 19
No - 11

From this I can now know that the more people are influenced by trailers then people who are not at my age, this means my trailer has to be successful to persuade people to like the film.

2. What is your favourite horror out of the ones below?

Paranormal Activity - 12
IT - 8
Conjuring - 2
Saw - 3
Scary Movie - 5

This shows me that paranormal is the most popular sub genre of horror, this proves it was a good decision for me to choose this sub genre and I will have to watch the film and trailer of these films in order to know what makes them so successful and popular.

3. What makes a good movie trailer out of options below?

Cliffhanger - 19

A lot is given away - 5

Not much is given away - 6

From this I know that a cliffhanger will be the best technique of our trailer to make it successful as a clear majority prefer this.

4. Do you prefer for a movie trailer to be slow or fast paced?

Fast - 24

Slow - 6

This is a good result because it clearly relates to horror film trailers very well as the majority of them are very fast paced. I now know that people also prefer this in general.

5. Do you enjoy horror films?

Yes - 27

No - 3

This shows how popular the horror genre is amongst our age group so this shows it was a good choice to go with this genre. If this number was drastically low then I might have had to rethink the genre of choice.

6. What setting do you prefer?

Abandoned building/area - 9

Dark woods - 14

Big, old house - 7

From this I have seen that dark woods is the prefered location for the film trailer, although we probably are going to use more than one so we could use an abandoned building/area too.

7. Do you like realistic horrors?

Yes - 21

No - 9

This is good because it would be hard for mine to be unrealistic as we do not have CGI to create monsters and other beings. Also making it more realistic is good as it is believable to the audience. 

This questionnaire is very useful for my research as it has shown me what my target audience think the best ideas are for my trailer and I will try to include as much of this as I can in my film trailer to make it successful amongst our target audience.
